Fan Art from Helder

Helder-group-shot.jpg
I love it when I can just ask for something and it happens.

I asked for more fan art of the girls and we received this sketch from another of my Flickr peeps, Helder.

Helder did a sketch of all four girls, which is awesome because now they're all represented in the fanart section at least once. But more importantly I like that he used a very different style from what we normally do here. It's always nice to see different interpretations of the characters.

Of course we still want more fan art as well, so if you feel like drawing any, or if you just want to tell us what you think of the strip or the book, please email us at feedback@cosmichellcats.com.

Hidden Details in our comics

Chaste_Gun_Warning.jpg
Sometimes Max and I like to throw little in-jokes or sight gags in the comic. They're actually all over the first issue of the book if you care to look for them (still available, in two different versions, from the Hellcats Bookstore, order yours today! End Cheap Plug). There have been a couple in the webcomic as well. Sometimes they're really subtle or even really really inside and only we'd get them. Other times, they're there for anyone who cares to see them.

There was one we wanted to do today, but no one would ever notice it because we don't publish the webcomics at high enough resolution to make it legible, so I thought I'd point out the warning label on Chaste's giant gun in today's comic. Max actually came up with the text here, so full credit goes to him on this one. I just added it to the gun when I was doing the coloring and lettering. You can see the text more clearly by clicking on this image, but if you still can't read it, it says:

WARNING: The Federated Union of Confederated Kingdoms declaration 187352-97B has categorized the use of this weapon as a Class 3 War Crime except in extraordinary circumstances outlined in section 14b R7 of Federated Union of Confederated Kingdoms Declaration 165432-44D. Operators are advised to file request for Authorization of Excessive Destructive Force under code 6786453-J of the Transdimensional Interstellar Tranquility Squadron Charter

See, you always have to pay attention. We're so clever...  or bored... I'm not sure which.

Damsel and Sarah by Stephen Poff

Damsel and Sarab by Poff
For those who don't know, I co-host a podcast based on one of my other art projects (365 Days, a daily photographic, self-portrait journal) with a guy named Stephen Poff.

I made a comment on one of my 365s that I was looking for Hellcats fan art to add to the site, and Stephen was nice enough to draw one. So here are Damsel and Sarah.

Sarah, at two pics, now has more fan drawings than any of the other Hellcats, I'm sure they're jealous; especially Amaya, who has none. So now is your chance, draw your favorite Hellcat (or Hellcats) and send it to us at feedback@cosmichellcats.com, and we'll add it here on the site. And if Sarah is your favorite, feel free to draw her too. She loves bragging.

Max and Mav presenting Hellcats at art show

Chaste Black Poster.jpg
Max and I are going to be appearing at the "Good and Evil" show at Pittsburgh's Creative Treehouse displaying photos from the Hellcats photoshoot as well as the comic.

If you're in Pittsburgh or near here, by all means stop by and buy a print or a signed book. Should be a blast.

This is an 18 and over show, and BYOB. There will be live bands. I've presented my photography at these shows before and they're generally quite fun. So if you're not busy Saturday night then please come on by.

And if you are busy. Well, cancel your plans. We're much cooler than whatever you were going to be doing anyway.

Hellcat Pinups by Kristoffer Smith

Chaste-by-kris.jpg
Since there's no update to the comic itself til Monday, and since so far in the current story, only Damsel and Amaya have appeared, I thought it might be a good time to post these sketches of Chaste and Sarah by Kristoffer Smith.

Kris is a local Pittsburgh artist and comic book creator and insanely talented. He's been "in the biz" since he was a teenager and had his own table at comicon. He stopped by our booth and saw the comic on the first day, and then came back a few hours later with this sketch of Chaste, simply because he liked the book.

The next day, Sarah asked him to do one of her, so he did that as well.

I love Kris's art and hopefully there'll be some future Hellcat project we can collaborate on.

If you have Hellcats fan art, please send them to us at feedback@cosmichellcats.com.

More Pictures From Pittsburgh Comicon 2008

Hellcats and Elston
Flickr user Elston, who is a member of my 365 Project recognized me and approached me at the Con.

We spoke for a while about my 365 book and the Hellcats comic and he asked if it was ok if he took a picture with me and the team for his daily self-portrait. Being total camera whores, we of course obliged.

He also gave us a picture of Chaste that he took at the convention before he even knew that i was involved in the project.

Thanks to Elston, and if anyone else has any pics they'd like to share, please send them to feedback@cosmichellcats.com.

Photos from Pittsburgh Comicon 2008

PGH-Comicon-2008-11.jpg
We had a great time at Comicon, of course. The book did really well and we met a lot of fans and even did a couple of interviews. The girls seem to have had a blast. I keep looking around Flickr and seeing Hellcat pictures popping up everywhere.

Took a lot of pictures out there of a lot of people in a lot of great outfits. Decided to add them here. In the future, any pics we have from fans, be they photos with max, the girls, and myself, or fanart that people have drawn will be added to the Fan Pics section of the website. I actually have a couple of really good sketches by Indy Comic artist Kristoffer Smith that I will be putting up as soon as I have time. But until then, enjoy these photos from the con. Even more pictures from comicon, including all those without the 'Cats, but with some great costumes nonetheless are on my flickr page. If you have your own pics with the 'Cats you'd like uploaded here or if you have any fan sketches, please send them to feedback@cosmichellcats.com.

Also, we're hard at work on issue 2 of Cosmic Hellcats IX. But until then, be sure to check out the website for the new Web Comics section of the site for the brand new Cosmic Hellcats Adventures webcomic that Max and I just started. We'll be updating it a couple times a week with further exploits of the 'Cats. These will probably even be sillier than what happens in the main book, which from now on is going to center more on story. Hopefully, we'll also be making Adventures into a published comic or manga as well, once we have enough of them. But that's off in the future. Until then, just enjoy them here.

The first issue of Cosmic Hellcats IX is also still available. So if you don't have it yet, head over to the Bookstore and grab a copy. The more we sell, the sooner issue 2 can come out.
